About Downtown Long Beach, California:
Downtown Long Beach is the heart of Long Beach, California, and is the location for most of the city's major tourist attractions and municipal services. It is also the location for numerous high rise buildings that keep the streets of the bustling during the day. A number of hotels also line the city along Ocean Avenue and provide Long Beach hospitality for those coming to the Long Beach Convention Center.
Pine Avenue has become the point for renovation of Downtown Long Beach. In the past 10 years it has had a total make over, becoming a nightlife destination for Southern Californians from every walk of life. High end eateries and attractive retailers line this street and light up the night sky. Lofts and condos are also being built all along Ocean Avenue and near Pine Avenue providing city living for young professionals and retirees.
The Pike, a new addition to downtown in the past few years boosts a number of entertainment and restaurants. Situated to the south of Ocean Avenue, and across from the newly expanded Long Beach Convention Center, the Pike has added ambiance and energy not seen in Long Beach since the 1940’s. Key eateries include, PF Changs, Bostons, Outback Steakhouse and Gladstones with more opening soon.
The approximate boundaries of Downtown Long Beach are the Los Angeles River to the west, the Pacific Ocean to the south, Alamitos Avenue to the east, and 10th Street to the north.
This greater downtown area includes the neighborhoods of the East Village Arts District east of Long Beach Blvd and north of Ocean Blvd, West End to the west of Pacific Ave and north of Ocean. The area between Long Beach Blvd and Pacific Avenue constitutes the Downtown Core. The Shoreline district south of Ocean Blvd includes many attractions including the Pike, the convention center, Sports Arena, Marina and Shoreline Village.
Most of the commercial and restaurant activity is along Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive; most of the municipal and governmental buildings are along West Ocean Boulevard and Broadway, and the residential towers are along Ocean Boulevard.
