Spring Has Given Way to Summer and You Still Haven’t Done Your “Spring Cleaning”. There’s No Better Time to Declutter than NOW!
I don’t know about you, but regardless of the time of year, I always run into clutter issues. My family recently moved to a new home and it was pure chaos. Boxes everywhere, toys strewn about and the familiarity my wife and I enjoyed at our previous home was totally thrown out the door.
It was then that I received some great information that is relevant to myself and just about everyone I know. After reading it, I quickly concluded it was time to declutter.
OBSERVATION: The Average Person will Spend a Total of 3,680 hours, or 153 days of their life searching for misplaced items (per “Becoming Minimalist”)
I found this statistic a bit scary but true (at least in my world). So, what can one do? Answer: Take the 5-Bin plunge.
The 5-Bin Approach as Explained by Buffini & Company
Simply put, the 5-bin approach is an effective approach to reorganizing the important things and “DISGARDING” those items that hold little sentiment or importance. Each bin has a reason and provides a path to an action. Here they are:
- Bin 1 – Items that need to be put away
This allows one the opportunity to start organizing and separate the things you want and the others you don’t.
- Bin 2 – Items to be fixed
This is a place for those things that need to be fixed, cleaned and/or washed go in this bin.
- Bin 3 – Items to Donate
I always opt for donating instead of throwing away. One’s trash is another’s treasure.
- Bin 4 – Items to be Recycled
Paper, plastic and glass go in this bin.
- Bin 5 – Items to be thrown out
Have a larger bin available for those things you want to “purge”.
The 5-Bin Approach In Every Room
The strategy to employ the “5 Bin Approach” to decluttering your home work can be set up on a room-to-room basis. Send me your e-mail address and I will forward this two-page flyer a clear path to take when you finally come to the realization that it is time to declutter.
